NCDHM 2024National Children’s Dental Health Month (NCDHM) is observed every February with a different slogan each year. Sponsored by the American Dental Association (ADA), the campaign aims to raise awareness of the importance of kids’ dental health.

What is National Children’s Dental Health Month?

NCDHM is a state health observance movement for children’s dental health. Educators, healthcare providers, and dental professionals from all over come together to advocate the importance of good dental health to children.

Launched in February 1949 as a day-long event, NCDHM became a monthly affair in February 1981. Eighty years later, February remains a time to promote children’s dental health.

How to Observe National Children’s Dental Health Month

Schedule an Appointment with Your Child’sDentist

Scheduling an appointment with a dentist is by far the best way to observe National Children’s Dental Health Month. Spending time at the dentist’s takes the anxiety off of subsequent appointments. You should schedule an appointment with the dentist for your child every six months for a cleaning and checkup.

If you constantly forget to schedule an appointment with the dentist for your dentist, February is the perfect time to do so!

Buy New Toothbrushes

NCDHM is a time to educate yourself and your children on good dental hygiene practices. A fun fact your kids should know is that toothbrushes should not exceed three months of regular use. Frayed bristles make a toothbrush ineffective.

Add fun to dental hygiene education this February by letting your kids pick their new toothbrushes.

Check Your Child’s Brushing Technique

If you usually leave your kids unattended to brush their teeth, February is a perfect time to change that. Observing your kid’s brushing techniques and throwing in a few helpful tips here and there is a perfect way to celebrate NCDHM.

National Children’s Dental Health Month is a perfect time to raise awareness of children’s dental health within your community, starting with your family.
